ALEXANDRIA, VA—December 1, 2010. IWR recently published the Annual Report of its activities for Fiscal Year 2009. It was a busy year for IWR with many of the Institute's activities relating to the program and policy reforms contained in the Water Resources Development Act of 2007. IWR staff assisted the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army (Civil Works) in drafting a proposed revision to the Principles & Guidelines (P&G). Also in FY09, the International Center for Integrated Water Resources Management (ICIWaRM) was designated as a UNESCO Category 2 Water Center, and IWR participated in the 5th World Water Forum held in Istanbul, Turkey, in March 2009.

In FY09, IWR's Conflict Resolution and Public Participation Center (CPC) was designated as a Center of Expertise. The CPC conducted numerous activities aimed at supporting Corps Headquarters, Divisions and Districts in collaborative planning efforts and ensuring that public interests were addressed in the Corps decision-making process. Other significant achievements in FY09 include the release of numerous technological innovations and software upgrades by the Hydrologic Engineering Center (HEC), the institution of a new visiting scholar program, and the recognition of the U.S. Section of PIANC as the "Best Performing National Section" for 2008 at PIANC's Annual General Assembly.
