Glossary terms for letter: J

Jetty:

A narrow, elongated coastal-engineering structure built perpendicular to the shoreline at inlets. Designed to prevent longshore drift from filling the inlet and to provide protection for navigation.

Joint Planting:

The process of placing live woody plant cuttings in the spaces between pieces of riprap. When placed properly, the cuttings are capable of rooting and growing.
