Gravity Dam:
Gravity dams are solid concrete structures that maintain their stability against design loads from the geometric shape and the mass and strength of the concrete. Generally, they are constructed on a straight axis, but may be slightly curved or angled to accommodate the specific site conditions. Gravity dams typically consist of a no overflow section(s) and an overflow section or spillway. The two general concrete construction methods for concrete gravity dams are conventional placed mass concrete and RCC.
Gravity Wall:
A gravity wall consisting of mass concrete, generally without reinforcement. It is proportioned so that the resultant of the forces acting on any internal plane through the wall falls within, or close to, the center of the section.
Groin (British, Groyne):
A shore protection structure built (usually perpendicular to the shoreline) to trap littoral drift or retard erosion of the shore.
Groundwater Recharge:
The infiltration of water intothe earth. It may increase the total amount ofwater stored underground or only replenishsupplied depleted through pumping or naturaldischarge.
