Dr. Jerome Delli Priscoli Participates in Americas Regional Consortium Meeting |

ALEXANDRIA, VA – December 11, 2009. Dr. Jerome Delli Priscoli of IWR participated in a follow-on meeting to the 5th World Water Forum. The meeting was held by the Americas Regional Consortium and GWP Central America from November 30-December 1, 2009, in San José, Costa Rica. The objectives of the meeting were to strengthen the mobilization process that began at the 5th World Water Forum, continue to promote the water agenda at the policy level, and support regional initiatives that contribute to global water policy recommendations. This follow-up event was organized to assist members of the Americas region in meeting commitments outlined at the Forum, namely promoting processes for regional coordination of policies regarding conservation and sustainable development and use of water resources. The 5th World Water Forum took place in Istanbul, Turkey, from March 16-22, 2009. USACE/IWR personnel were actively involved in the Forum and participated in panels and technical sessions. These representatives also acted as members of the U.S. Department of State’s interagency delegation. With ministers from over 100 countries participating, the 5th World Water Forum enabled multi-stakeholder interaction and debates on key issues pertaining to water. This Forum specifically focused on water actions needed to help adapt to world changes, especially climate changes. Dr. Delli Priscoli’s continued involvement in events relating to the 5th World Water Forum is indicative of IWR’s commitment to international engagement in water issues and the formation of water policy.
