ALEXANDRIA, VIRGINIA - December 21, 2012. The International Center for Integrated Water Resources Management (ICIWaRM), under the auspices of UNESCO, held a meeting of its partners on December 4, 2012. The partners reviewed the center’s accomplishments from 2009 through 2012. They then each shared a summary of their specific activities related to ICIWaRM and UNESCO. ICIWaRM activities centered around continuing education, research and institutional capacity building in focal areas that include arid/semi-arid zones, droughts and floods, water and environment, integrated water resources management, global and climate change, and mathematical modeling. Achievements over the 2009-2012 time period included the recent efforts related to the Mekong River Commission supporting basin development strategy and shared visioning of basin development scenarios; development of ICI-RAFT (ICIWaRM Regional Analysis of Frequency Tool) software for analysis of rainfall data; participation in the new Global Water Partnership; participation in World Water Week 2012 and the 2012 Meeting of the Regional Coordinators and Water Centers of IHP for Latin American and the Caribbean; leadership of the hydrology and climate working group of the Alliance for Global Water Adaptation; attendance at UNESCO meetings; as well as many other activities. The partners discussed the road ahead, including how IHP-VIII will impact focus, and broke into smaller groups for more detailed discussions on implementation specific themes and projects. ICIWaRM is an international water resources technical center at IWR and is the only UNESCO International Hydrological Programme Category 2 water center in the United States. Learn More
