ALEXANDRIA, VA – December 11, 2009. On December 3, 2009, Drs. Jerome Delli Priscoli and Hal Cardwell presented the first in a series of 40th anniversary seminars. The seminar featured the history of conflict resolution and public participation at IWR and the Corps. This discussion addressed IWR’s decades of experience with public involvement and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) techniques, including the development and advancement of Shared Vision Planning (SVP). The exciting future of the Corps’ work in these fields was also a focus of the seminar.

Specific methods for engaging stakeholders were discussed at the meeting and examples of past efforts were provided, such as the IWR-led National Listening Sessions. The seminar detailed the establishment and mission of the Conflict Resolution and Public Participation Center of Expertise, which was designated by Deputy Commanding General Don Riley on October 17, 2008. This Center leverages IWR’s history of leadership in public participation to assist the Corps in current and future collaborative initiatives.
