IWR Issues Report from International Flood Risk Management Event |

ALEXANDRIA,VA—February 24, 2011. IWR recently released its After-Event Report of the International Flood Risk Management Approaches International Policy Oriented Discussions event, held November 30-December 1, 2010, in Washington, D.C. The report synthesizes the major issues, insights and challenges discussed during the event. These included risk assessment, communicating risk, and various approaches to addressing flood hazards. The report also featured a comparison of governance approaches in nine countries, drawing from papers submitted by participants in those countries (Belgium, Germany, Japan, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Spain, Switzerland, the U.K. and the U.S.). Approximately 100 people from nearly 20 countries attended this productive and thought-provoking event. The meeting was hosted by the USACE National Flood Risk Management Program.
