Bruzewicz attended the second meeting of the United Nations High Level Expert Panel on Water and Disasters in Seoul, Korea on 28-29 January 2008. The panel was created by the United Nations Advisory Board on Water and Sanitation to move forward in solving disaster-related problems that are linked to water.

Mr. Stockton, Deputy Director of Civil Works, presented material on the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers emergency management international program. The Civil Military Emergency Preparedness Program, led by Andrew Bruzewicz, is an approach being taken by the Corps to help nations and regions build the capacity to prepare for and manage the response to large disasters.

Dr. Delli Priscoli, a senior advisor on international water issues at IWR and a key planner for the upcoming 5th World Water Forum, facilitated a session tasked with developing potential actions for the Panel to consider that will address issues of water-related disasters.

As the Expert Panel proceeds with its work, proposals put forward during this meeting will be evaluated, discussed, and modified to maximize their impact. The third meeting of the Panel will occur in Marseille, France in June 2008, and the fourth meeting will be in New Orleans, Louisiana, on 4-5 November 2008, hosted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
