IWR Team Members on Assignment in Turkey for 5th World Water Forum |

ALEXANDRIA, VA – April 11, 2008. IWR’s Lindy Wolner arrived in Istanbul, Turkey on March 20, 2008 for his one-year assignment to the 5th World Water Forum (WWF5) Secretariat, where he will be working with the Turkey State Hydraulic Works (DSI). Mr. Wolner was immediately engaged in meetings connected to World Water Day on March 21-22 in Instanbul. Jerome Delli Priscoli, PhD, also in Instanbul and a member of the executive bureau of the World Water Council, the international steering committee for the 5th World Water Forum, and the political committee for the 5th World Water Forum, delivered a keynote address on behalf of Loic Fauchon, President, World Water Council on March 22. Both gentlemen attended other WWF5-related events, including the Local Authorities Political Process Kick-Off Meeting Mr. Wolner reports that World Water Day 2008 panelists and speakers confirmed the importance of basin management, regional/urban planning and Integrated Water Resource Management to improve water productivity and security, particularly for large cities which are home to more than half of the world’s population. Dr. Delli Priscoli and Mr. Wolner have been invited to the International Symposium on the 5th World Water Forum during the EWRI-ASCE World Congress 2008 on May 12 in Honolulu. The ASCE Environmental and Water Resources Institute (EWRI) recently joined the World Water Council and AWRA to host the America’s Regional Consortium. IWR has partnerships with both EWRI-ASCE and AWRA. IWR and EWRI signed a Memorandum of Understanding in August of 2007. IWR and AWRA signed a Memorandum of Understanding December 20, 2007.
