ALEXANDRIA, VA – April 14, 2008. Jerome (Jerry) Delli Priscoli, PhD, represented the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the World Water Council at the recent 1st African Ministerial Water Dialogue in Tunis March 26-28, 2008. He delivered a plenary speech on the first day of the event. Dr. Delli Priscoli’s roles included creating opportunities for the regional international development banks to meet with United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), as well as exploring a direct partnership between the South African government and the Corps. Dr. Delli Priscoli presented “Lessons of Experience from USA” during the Plenary Programme on March 26, 2008, entitled “Infrastructure Platform for Achieving Water Security - Lessons of Global Experience.” The event was hosted by the African Ministers’ Council on Water (AMCOW) and the African Development Bank (AfDB) and covered the theme “Accelerating Water Security for Socio-Economic Development of Africa”. The main objective of the First African Water Week was to create a forum for African water sector professionals, stakeholders and partners to discuss opportunities and challenges of achieving water security for Africa's socio-economic development; and to formulate concrete policies, strategies and actions to accelerate water resources development and provision of services taking into consideration challenges and impact.
