Kathleen White to Lead Water Resources Systems and Global Change Initiative |
![]() ALEXANDRIA, VA — May 27, 2009. Kathleen D. "Kate" White, a civil engineer with the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory (CRREL) in Hanover, NH, has been selected as a senior team leader of the Institute for Water Resources Systems and Global Change initiative. Dr. White's position with IWR will include an important new national initiative on water management adaptation to climate change. A national assessment of how climate change will affect water resources planning and the management of the existing Corps water resources infrastructure in the future, including its effects on coastal resources, is a focus of the initiative. For the past 21 years, Dr. White has worked in various positions at CRREL. Initially, she served as a research hydraulic engineer in the Ice Engineering Branch. She then was a research hydraulic engineer and later the acting branch chief in the Environmental Science Branch. Most recently she served as a civil engineer in the organization's executive office and the team lead for the USACE Actions for Change, Theme 1: Comprehensive Systems, in which she led a multi-disciplinary program involving all mission areas of the USACE Civil Works and Military programs. Actions for Change is a set of actions USACE will focus on to transform its priorities, processes and planning. Dr. White is the recipient of multiple research awards and has authored and co-authored numerous articles in her field of research. She earned a bachelor's and master's in civil engineering from the University of New Hampshire, and a doctorate in civil and environmental engineering from the University of Vermont. She is a registered professional engineer in the state of New Hampshire. Learn more about: |
