Lauren DeFrank Named 2009 Presidential Management Fellow

ALEXANDRIA, VA – September 14, 2009. Lauren DeFrank joins IWR as a 2009 Presidential Management Fellow. She will be working with Bob Brumbaugh (National Capital Region) and David Lichy (Navigation Data Center).

Lauren recently completed an M.S. in Environmental Science with a concentration in Environmental Planning and Management at Louisiana State University. Her thesis was entitled "Resiliency of New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina: A Study of Communities Three Years after the Storm." While working on her thesis, Lauren studied Orleans Parish to determine what social, economic and environmental factors influenced the return rate of population to the New Orleans area and the social-ecological resilience of communities within the city. Lauren brings her experience working with energy and air pollution issues to IWR.
