National Weather Service (NWS) - Department of Commerce, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

The Hydrologic Engineering Center (HEC) at IWR and the Department Of Commerce, National Oceanic And Atmospheric Administration, National Weather Service (NWS) have signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to provide NWS with innovative software from HEC. The software updates will improve the NWS River Forecast System (NWSRFS), which is a collection of hydrologic models, operations, and data processing functions that are used to supply forecasts, guidance and information to NWS.

Signing Parties:

  • Gary M. Carter, Director, Office of Hydrologic Development (NWS)
  • Christopher N. Dunn, Director, Hydrologic Engineering Center (IWR)

Purpose: This partnership intends to develop, incorporate and utilize models and techniques developed by HEC into NWS operational software.

Terms: The Parties will work together to:

  • Enhance ResSim software and its integration with the National Weather Service River Forecast System
  • Provide access to execute HEC-RAS from NWS’s CHP
