U.S. Geological Survey (USGS)

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) have agreed to undertake collaborative efforts to improve resource management and the understanding of the nation’s resources. The agencies’ cooperation will further the use of science in the practice of water resource management. IWR plays a role in the implementation of this agreement.

About the Partnership Agreement

Signing Parties:

• Charles G. Groat, Director (USGS)
• George S. Dunlop, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army (USACE)

Purpose: This partnership aims to provide information for science-based management of U.S. water, geological and biological resources.

Terms: The Parties will work jointly in the following fields:

• Improving the understanding of our nation’s natural resources to better manage those resources for the benefit of the American people
• Encouraging cooperation and synergy between the agencies  at the national, regional and field office levels
• Collecting and reporting information about natural resources to ensure the scientific nature of resource management
• Fostering the development of close partnerships through joint training and interagency development assignments
