Visiting Scholar Dr. Martin Doyle a Guggenheim Fellowship Recipient

Alexandria, VA – December 15, 2009. IWR Visiting Scholar Dr. Martin Doyle is a 2009 recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, awarded by the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation. The Foundation offers Fellowships to further the development of scholars and artists by assisting them to engage in research in any field of knowledge and creation in any of the arts, under the freest possible conditions and irrespective of race, color, or creed. Dr. Doyle plans to use his time as a Guggenheim Fellow to complete a book on the history and political economy of rivers of the U.S. South. According to the Foundation, "Guggenheim Fellows are appointed on the basis of stellar achievement and exceptional promise for continued accomplishment." Many past recipients have also received Nobel, Pulitzer and other prizes.
