Joe Manous Named ASCE Government Civil Engineer of the Year

ALEXANDRIA, VIRGINIA - November 9, 2012.  IWR’s Joe Manous, P.E., Ph.D., D.WRE, has received the Government Civil Engineer of the Year Citation from the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). Dr. Manous serves as a Group Manager and the Future Directions Team Leader for the Institute for Water Resources and is on part-time detail to the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army (Civil Works).

Dr. Manous is a civil engineer specializing in the areas of water resources and environmental security issues associated with water. He received the citation for being a visionary who possesses a talent for collaboration and teaming and who is accomplished in leadership and management skills.

Dr. Manous has been actively involved with the "professional" aspects of the engineering profession for over 20 years, particularly through his involvement with ASCE where he chaired the ASCE Committee on Professional Practice, Post-Hurricane Katrina Critical Infrastructure Guidance Task Force and Paraprofessional Task Committee. He is also a member of the Executive Board of the National Institute for Engineering Ethics (NIEE).

Before joining IWR, Dr. Manous served as an Academy Professor at the United States Military Academy at West Point from 2000 through 2008, where he taught courses in environmental engineering, water resources and environmental security.  A U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officer, Dr. Manous retired from active duty in the grade of Colonel in 2008.
