ALEXANDRIA, VA—February 18, 2011. IWR participated in the USACE-USGS Headquarters Quarterly meeting on February 3rd. The meeting was held at USACE Headquarters in Washington, DC. Personnel from the Bureau of Reclamation, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) also attended the meeting.
Rolf Olsen of IWR presented information on the status and future directions of the Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) Water Resources and Climate Change Working Group. He also made a joint presentation on planned revisions to Bulletin 17B (Guidelines for Determining Flood Flow Frequency) with Robert Mason of USGS. Jeff Arnold of IWR presented an update on the activities of the Climate Change and Water Working Group (CCAWWG).
Additional topics discussed at the meeting included streamgauging, carbon sequestration, and the Bureau of Reclamation’s SECURE Water Act Report. Personnel from USACE and USGS presented information on regional collaboration between the two agencies, particularly the USACE-USGS Regional Joint Leadership Meeting — Mississippi Basin Region that was held in October 2010. Senior leaders from USGS and the Bureau of Reclamation stated they want to encourage these types of regional collaboration meetings.
