IHP-HELP Centre, University of Dundee

The Institute for Water Resources (IWR), primarily working through the International Center for Integrated Water Resources Management (ICIWaRM), and the Graduate School of Natural Resources Law, Policy and Management [lHP-HELP Centre for Water Law, Policy and Science (IHP-HELP Centre)] of the University of Dundee, Scottish (Charity No. SC015096) signed a memorandum of understanding. The Parties desire to promote and enhance economic, social and environmental well-being by fostering interdisciplinary research, development and improvement of IWRM science, policies and practices, and to promote, encourage and advance sound water resources management.

Purpose: The Parties recognize the benefit of mutual cooperation and joint activities to each party's missions; and further, their mutual interest in participating in international initiatives including, but not limited to, activities of the International Hydrological Programme (IHP) of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)  when consistent with the policies, goals and laws governing each party.

Terms: The University of Dundee and IWR, working primarily through the IHP-HELP Centre and lCIWaRM respectively, will use their best efforts to establish a long-term cooperation and partnership in the advancement of integrated water resources management, related interdisciplinary scientific research, and capacity-building for developing countries. The Parties are especially interested in pursuing cooperative opportunities in the following areas of common interest:

  • Integrated water resources and river basin management;
  • Interactions among land, water and people;
  • Water policy and institutions;
  • Effects of climate change and variability on water resources;
  • Collaborative planning in water resources;
  • Capacity building; and
  • UNESCO HELP basins.

About ICIWaRM

ICIWaRM is a UNESCO Category 2 water centre headquartered at the Institute for Water Resources in Alexandria, VA. ICIWaRM is a consortium of U.S. Government agencies, university departments and non-governmental organizations committed to working together in support of the strategic program objectives of UNESCO’s International Hydrological Programme (IHP). The overall mission of ICIWaRM is the advancement of the science and practice of integrated water resources management (IWRM) to address water security and other water-related challenges by regional and global action.
