Emergency Management
Purpose: Provide technical engineering support to disaster response operations using forward deployment personnel, teams, and units and reachback capabilities.
The US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) provides full-spectrum engineering services and capabilities in support of National interests at home and abroad. USACE provides trained and ready teams and personnel to support disaster response under its own authorities, in support of (ISO) the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and ISO the Department of War (DoW).
WRC supports emergency management operations primarily through the modeling of hurricane events. Hurricane season in the Atlantic begins June 1st and ends November 30th. The Eastern Pacific hurricane season begins May 15th and ends November 30th. We provide estimates of possible debris volumes, needs for commodities, number of people and households likely within hurricane force winds, the need for possible temporary roofing, and temporary housing needs. Modeling projections begin about three days prior to a forecasted hurricane landfall.
