National Weather Service (NOAA)

The Hydrologic Engineering Center (HEC) at IWR and the Department of Commerce, National Oceanic And Atmospheric Administration, National Weather Service (NWS) have signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to provide NWS with innovative software from HEC. The software updates will improve the NWS River Forecast System (NWSRFS), which is a collection of hydrologic models, operations, and data processing functions that are used to supply forecasts, guidance and information to NWS.

Purpose: This partnership intends to develop, incorporate and utilize models and techniques developed by HEC into NWS operational software.

Terms: The Parties will work together to:

  • Enhance ResSim software and its integration with the National Weather Service River Forecast System
  • Provide access to execute HEC-RAS from NWS’s CHP
