The National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) Water Network (RAUNAM) and IWR/ICIWaRM signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to support mutual cooperation and joint activities in integrated water resources management, scientific research and capacity building.

About the Memorandum of Understanding

Signing Parties:

• Sergio M. Alcocer Martínez de Castro (General Secretary, UNAM)
• Robert A. Pietrowsky (Director, IWR and ICIWaRM)

Purpose: The Parties agree to join efforts for promoting research and capacity building regarding water resources, develop technical activities of mutual interest, and foster networking of scientists, information, knowledge and technology transfer.

Terms: The Parties are especially interested in pursuing cooperative opportunities in the following areas of interest:

• Integrated water resources planning and management.
• Modeling tools for hydrologic analysis, risk analysis and system analysis.
• River engineering, marginal protection and erosion control.
• Environmental restoration, eco-hydrologic analysis and water quality.
• Capacity building and training.
• Joint or cooperative water resources programs and projects of mutual benefit, including conferences, visits, and exchanges of scientists and other experts of technical personnel.
• Other forms of cooperation as agreed by the Parties, including meetings between the two Parties on a regular basis.

RAUNAM is a knowledge network that generates, stores, distributes and analyzes knowledge on water issues from an interdisciplinary perspective. It has been organized by the community of UNAM in order to facilitate the transfer of knowledge and the development of joint efforts to deal with the country’s water problems through an outstanding capacity to tackle complex national problems.
