Connecticut Silver Jackets

The CT Silver Jackets Team is comprised of local, State, Tribal and Federal representatives, who share the vision of promoting best practices to enhance community resilience for Natural Disasters with the focus on sound flood risk management practices.

Team Activities

Flood Toolkit

The toolkit / dashboard is a focused guide for municipalities/tribal nations to use before, during, and after a flood event.  The toolkit provides information for town officials and staff regarding where to obtain flood risk data and information, how to manage a flood during the event, and resources available to recover from a flood.  The Connecticut Silver Jackets team, comprised of many of the state and federal agencies that towns coordinate following a flood event, compiled a statewide flood response toolkit to be provided to each town to help address flood response and recovery issues.

Ice Jam Outreach

The January 2018 ice jams raised many questions among state and local officials about ice jam mitigation and response.  Connecticut Silver Jackets , in partnerships with the USACE Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory and NOAA National Weather Service, conducted five workshops to provide greater understanding of ice jams, possible methods for mitigation and response.  The Ice Jam Workshops allowed local officials to learn about river ice and the efforts underway to understand and predict ice jam occurrences. This knowledge will help local and state officials in reducing vulnerability to ice jam flooding.  Lessons learned from each community was communicated during the workshops allowing full engagement between local officials and state emergency management.
